Celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day and International Yarn Bombing Day with local artist Wonky Stitches (aka Fluffy Robot), in association with Lower Hutt Knit World. Bringing you a day of bird counting... race around, map and camera in hand, to see how many woolly birds you can spot hidden on Lower Hutt Main Street.

Come along to a workshop, for a koha donation to Forest & Bird, and learn how to make your own knitted or crocheted chicken. Bring your own needles or hooks (4mm), we supply the yarn, stuffing and instructions. Find out more!

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
