Supporting OUR town Te Aroha

Angela Neighbourly Lead from Te Aroha

Many of the towns residents say not much happens in the area, but have you noticed that when something does there is not really a huge support. many of the markets held monthly have dwindled and the organisers put so much effort into the organising of the market, and other things. Yes it was a fantastic turn out for Dominion Day and many of us have thanked those responsible for such a splendid programme.
Where is this leading to you ask? Well having had 'fundraising' events at our Villa since we moved here in June 2015 we have actually raised and given locally, $3300.00, which excludes our efforts for the Pink Ribbon Breakfast last Year held in conjunction with Marie's Kitchen, and of course the Christmas lights for the town etc which were also supported by some of the local businesses. This isn't asking for a pat on the back, far from it, but it is hard work, enjoyable or we wouldn't do it, and of course no one makes us; however the posting regarding Prince Harry and Megan Markle on May 19th has been on the events page and noticeboard for several days now and to date the response has been very disappointing. Are people just not reading posts, or maybe not really wanting things to happen here in the town for communities to come together? Not everyone is a Royal Fan, totally understandable, but then its not all bout Royalty, it is a celebration of LOVE here under the Mountain of Love, for anyone and everyone, to be blessed or have their vows renewed. This has never been done before in a mass situation, with a very special programme included of entertainment fitting the occasion. There will be something very special for the children, not the usual I can assure you, and a shared picnic with everyone contributing, bringing neighbours to neighbours and communities to join each other in the grounds of our beautiful domain. So after reading this do please think about what is happening and circle that date on your calendar, unless you really are doing something else. Have a thought for a neighbour who may be in her/his senior years and does not drive, or may not use the computer, and offer them to join you in coming to show your support on the day. I really want this to happen so please show your interest by registering your name for the blessing or renewal and spread the word, Bill and I would so much appreciate it. 0212042633
