Healthy food options at Auckland Lantern Festival tonight
Got plans for dinner? Lots of delicious options at #lanternakl18 in AKL Domain, 4-10.30pm tonight. Check out our winners of the 2018 Healthier Menu Challenge: Zen E Kitchen & FRESH; honourable mentions to Special Pot, Xena Cuisine, & Hungarian Fried Bread.
Zen E Kitchen won for its great range of Chinese dishes cooked in healthy ways, like steaming and grilling, with lots of vegetables, mainly whole & unprocessed ingredients. Our judges thought it was great to see healthier traditional Chinese cultural foods and ways of cooking being featured and celebrated.
FRESH made a wonderful effort to embrace the spirit of the healthier menu challenge, loading up their poke bowls with lots of vegetables and nutritious protein, offered combos with water or healthier drinks; & provided clear nutritional info and made sure water was the cheapest drink available.
Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
