Orchid Show this weekend
The Canterbury Orchid Society is holding it's annual show this weekend. Saturday 7th Oct & Sunday 8th Oct 10 am - 4 pm at the Canterbury Mineral & Lapidary Club, 110 Waltham Road, next to Waltham Primary school. Displays & sales tables. Vendors include Tuckers Orchid nursery, Orchiata, Besgrow bark, raffles & local private sellers. Admission $5, children under 10 free. Refreshments available.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
