"Free" Parking

Geoff from Rototuna North

“Free” Parking

Submissions close this Sunday 7th May 2017 for the “Free” Parking proposal in Central City.
Do you support subsidizing businesses in the CBD?
The touted $26 is not a flat rate; it is an addition (increase) to Access Hamilton which is calculated on the capital value (CV) of the property. Higher the value the more you pay.
Choice and consequence: those who choose to shop in the central city, the consequences are the availability and cost to park. That is the individual’s choice.
There is no such choice for those who choose (or unable or do not have a car) not to shop in the CBD and the consequence is you still pay (effectively to subsidise businesses in the CBD).
“Free” Parking failed to revitalise or bring people into the CBD in Lower Hutt, Porirua, New Plymouth or Rotorua.
A mobile app is proposed to notify motorists of available parking spaces.
Isn’t using a mobile while driving against the law?
Pay for “Free” Parking in the CBD or not?

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
