Round the Bays - looking for group participants

Rhonwyn Newson Reporter from Rodney Times

The countdown has started and we are just a few months away from New Zealand's largest fun run and walk - Round the Bays.

From early morning trainings to the heroic moment you cross that finish line, the Rodney Times wants to follow one group's journey as they tackle the annual race.

We are looking for families, work mates, social groups, sports teams, anyone who is planning on training for and participating in the 8.4km trot from the Auckland CBD to St Heliers Bay. The start is located at Quay Street and the course continues along the Waitemata harbour to a spectacular finish.

Earlier this year, the race attracted more than 30,000 participants.

The selected group will have their progress tracked by a personal trainer for a period of eight weeks leading up to the race and the Rodney Times will run a story each week documenting the ride. Kit and entry fee will be provided.

Groups can be up to six people and need to make a brief pitch to RoundtheBays@fairfaxmedia.co.nz telling us a bit about the group and why you are keen to be involved. Be sure to include what area you are from and what your local paper is.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
