Those hated judder bars on the RailTrail.

Derrick from Thames

There is ever growing evidence that serious accidents HAVE occurred on the rail trail, especially the Thames to Paeroa section with its 54 judder bar cattle stops and the overly narrow gaps left for cyclists because of the useless gates placed ACROSS the trail.
Even our local cycle groups have recorded serious incidents. For example one broken finger, another lady with a broken arm that exposed the bone, and yet another case with both a broken collar bone and two broken ribs. Furthermore, there have been many near misses (scrapes and bruises) and damage to bikes and gear.
It is self evident from the number of cattle races that cross much wider public roads on the Hauraki Plains, most often without even temporary wires, that competent farmers have absolutely no challenge getting their herds across the narrow gap of the rail corridor if the gates are removed. Thus, get rid of the them; give them to the affected farmers; they can surely make enormously better use of them.
