St John's message this winter

The Team from St John New Zealand

This winter, St John urges the public to prioritise health & wellbeing. The most important thing you can do is be immunised against influenza and seek advice from a health professional if you are unwell. Each winter the surge of 111 ambulance calls continues to increase, which despite St John’s best efforts to triage and treat people in-home, places a lot of pressure on the ambulance service and the hospital emergency departments.

St John has issued five key messages to the public to help them look after themselves and each other this winter – read them here: goo.gl...

The incidence of bowel cancer in younger adults is rising in New Zealand. 10% of bowel cancer patients are under 50 – that’s more than 300 a year. Each year about 3,000 New Zealanders are diagnosed with the disease and more than 1,200 will die. That’s as many as breast and prostate cancer combined.

Take photos along the way and share them on our FB page!!

Pick It Up Now is a sustainability project in The Coromandel about influencing a culture change to get people to pick up rubbish rather than walk past it…however #pickitupnow stands for so much more – ways to reduce plastic usage and reducing rubbish.
The concept is in it’s infancy, however we hope to help grow it into something more significant.
We have got some key players in the tourism industry involved and keen, and are in the process of getting other businesses and more key players in the tourism industry on board as well.

The theme for 2018: Volunteers, The Heart of our Community – By many, the work will be completed, Mā tini, mā mano, ka rapa te whai, captures the essence of the volunteering spirit and the essential link between volunteers and the communities who benefit from their generosity. The event will run from June 17-23, 2018.

A tramping club says DOC should upgrade the tracks to protect kauri, instead of closing them. Kauaeranga Tramping Club tracks officer Greg Laslett said if the back country tracks are lost, where will people learn and enjoy wilderness skills?

"We basically feel like we're fighting for the survival of our walking heritage." What do you think? Do you use the tracks? What's the best option? (Please add "NFP/not for print" if you do not want your images/comments used on Stuff).

There are more than 500,000 businesses in New Zealand. Each of these businesses while different in size and sector all have one thing in common, people.

Everyone who works or owns a business in New Zealand pays levies. Your levy goes towards insuring and protecting your most important assets – you and your people.

Annual ACC invoices for businesses are sent out from 9 July and there’s a few things you need to know to make the process a whole lot easier.

If your details or circumstances have changed since last year, you can update these online. If you do this by 22 June, we can invoice you correctly.

Check out our guide to ACC levies and get it done online.
