Whangarei Film Society - screenings for Thursday August 14th

Geoff from Central Whangarei

Good People

The film night for Thursday 14th August for WFS will be in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei.

At 6pm, WFS will screen the latest offering from Legendary British filmmaker, Mike Leigh (Mr. Turner, Another Year, Secrets and Lies), the comedic drama, Hard Truths.

Our 8pm screening is the very popular British film starring comedian Steve Coogan, The Penguin Lessons.

HARD TRUTHS
UK, Comedic Drama, 97 mins, Rated M
Cast: Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michele Austin and David Webber
Director: Mike Leigh

Legendary filmmaker, Mike Leigh returns with a darkly humorous study of family and the thorny ties that bind us.

Pansy is a woman wracked by fear, tormented by afflictions, and prone to raging tirades against her husband, son, and anyone who looks her way. Meanwhile, Pansy's younger sister, Chantelle is a single mother with a life brimming with communal warmth from her salon clients and daughters alike.

This story takes us into the most enduring of human mysteries: that even through lifetimes of hurt and hardship, we still manage to find ways to love those we call family.

“Mike Leigh’s movies have a fire that’s practically adolescent while imparting a wisdom that’s possibly ancient. ‘Hard Truths’ is a tragi-comedy and one of the very few great films of this year.” – Roger Ebert

Showing at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei on Thursday, 14th August at 6pm and Thursday, 21st August at 8pm.

🐖 Bring back the piggy bank and save your loose change
🔨 DIY where you can - like mowing the lawn instead of paying someone
💵 Set a daily budget before heading out and stick to it (cash can help!)
