Great to be on Neighbourly!

Grant Burns from Tauraroa Area School

Tauraroa Area School is a Year 0-13 school (that's right - primary and secondary all in one) located 22km SW of Whangarei city (4km from Maungakaramea). With more than 520 students we are large enough to give our kids great opportunities and facilities but small enough to care. We welcome visits from anyone looking to enrol their kids here - please don't hesitate to get in touch.
We hope by being on Neighbourly, we'll be able to connect even more effectively with our community. However, please also check out our Facebook or Webpage sites for more information.
Last Friday we supported the national Pink Shirt Day, taking a stand against bullying. Here's a shot of some of our students and staff getting into the swing of things!

To-day's demonstration

Tel from Central Whangarei

There was a small demonstration in Whangārei to-day. It consisted of a few people claiming their freedom not to be vaccinated. Aside from vaccines not being compulsory, I have nothing against them demonstrating. They were not causing a nuisance and freedom of speech is important. It is even more important that we defend freedom of speech for groups with whom we disagree. Mind you why they want their children to die coughing up blood and mucus is beyond me but nevermind.

However there was one thing that I found annoying. One of the demonstrators was flying the He Whakaputanga flag. I support their right to demonstrate and I support their right to put their point of view. Basically if they want to stand up and say, "We are a load of ignorant numpties." then fair play to them. But they do not have the right to say, "All Māori are numpties." Before flying the United Tribes Flag, they should seek permission and I am confident that it would not be given,
