RIVIERA REVENGE
France, comedy (subtitles), 2024
94 mins, Rated M (strong language)
Cast: André Dussollier, Sabine Azéma

Ex French general François and his wife, Annie have been married for five decades and are enjoying all the perks of retirement.

François is tidying the attic one day, only to find love letters from Annie's secret affair with a man called Boris from 40 years ago.

Does François turn the other cheek and celebrate their 50 years of being together, or does he use his espionage skills to track down Annie's former lover?

Hell-bent on justice, François scours the Côte-d'Azur, determined to confront Boris, even if it means losing what he holds most dear in the process. It’s vengeance but it's French Riviera-style - with stunning backdrops and a whole lot of heart.

" A comedy anchored by two veterans of French cinema who know how to tease out every nuance of love, regret, passion and humour ." - Irresistible magazine

How can we avoid flooding in urban Whangārei, and minimise impact when the big rains come? ⛈️⛈️

Northland Regional Council and Whangarei District Council are now collaborating on the Whangārei Urban Flood Strategy to answer those questions. The strategy will guide investment in stormwater and flood protection infrastructure so the city is better prepared for current and future flooding challenges.

The project will include a year-long technical assessment that will inform funding decisions for the 2027 Long Term Plan for both Councils.

Check out these pictures from historic flooding events - as old as 1956 and as recent as 2023.

We’ve hit a tipping point, where choosing clean energy is the smart choice, and not just because we want to reduce our carbon emissions 🌍⚡💸

Thanks to major tech improvements and mass production over the past decade, the cost of wind, solar, and other renewables has dropped fast. As a result, most new power capacity built around the world came from renewables, and every continent added more clean energy than fossil fuels.

Money — the ultimate decision-maker in politics and business — is finally lining up with climate action. A big win for the planet (and maybe our wallets?)

We hope this news brings a smile!

It’s been a little full-on at the office lately, and the Neighbourly team found ourselves chatting about something we all experience: stress.

We got talking about the power of nature — green spaces like parks, bush walks, or even just sitting under a tree, and blue spaces like the ocean, lakes, or rivers. Research agrees: being in nature really does help calm the mind. We’re lucky here in Aotearoa to have such beautiful spots right on our doorstep!

But sometimes, getting out for a walk or escaping to the beach isn’t an option. So we’re curious...

We want to know: What do you do to find a moment of calm when life gets a bit too much?
A hot cuppa? A good playlist? Staring out the window?

Let us know ... your go-to might help someone else breathe a little easier, too.

The film night for TUESDAY (NOT Thursday) 26th August for WFS will be in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei.

At 6pm, WFS will screen the documentary Mozart's Sister which explores the dazzling talent and career of Maria-Anna Mozart, the older sister of Wolfgang.

Our 8pm screening is Lee, starring Kate Winslet, the fascinating portrait of the great American war correspondant and photographer, Lee Miller.

MOZART'S SISTER
Australia, 2024, Documentary, 98 mins.
Cast: Chloe Brown, Montague Cisterne
Director: Madeleine Hetherton-Miau

For the first 16 years of her life, Maria-Anna Mozart shared equal billing whenever she performed with her brother, Wolfgang.

A composer, musician and prodigy in her own right, Maria-Anna and Wolfgang often played for royalty around the world. Her father considered Maria-Anna one of the finest keyboard players in all of Europe.

But at the height of her career, Maria-Anna was made to retire as it was considered unseemly at the time for adult females to perform publicly.

Mozart’s Sister is a ‘musical-true-crime’ story that explores the amazing talent and career of Maria-Anna Mozart and what became of her music.

"Beautifully photographed and meticulously researched, this is a long overdue recognition of an artist arguably the equal of her brother." - Sydney Arts Guide
