Whangarei Film Society - screenings for Thursday August 24th

Geoff from Central Whangarei

Good People

For Thursday, the 24th August at 6pm we are screening the NZ comedy, Red, White and Brass which was produced by Taika Waititi.

Our 8pm screening is the amazing French documentary, Notre Dame on Fire.

Red White and Brass
New Zealand, 2023, Comedy
92 mins, Rated PG
Cast: John-Paul Foliaki, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, Ilaisaane Green
Director: Damon Fepulea'i

Based on a true story, Maka is a Tongan superfan and will do anything to get tickets to the Tonga vs France Rugby World Cup game – even if it means promising the organisers that he can deliver a brass band for the pre-match show.

One problem though – the band doesn’t exist and Maka has just four weeks to create one.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Will make you laugh and inspire you at the same time. - Subculture Entertainment

Tickets: Door sales only. Price: $10 for WFS members, $15 for non members. Cash only please - no Eftpos/credit card services available.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
