The NZ Defence Force has moved into Northland to help with the water crisis and the Government will pay $2m to secure water in the Far North. Meanwhile, Whangārei residents are now on water restrictions and bores could run dry. Do you think it is right for Central Government to step in and help? The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
