The film night for Thursday 3rd July for WFS will be in the Capitaine Bougainville Theatre at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei.

At 6pm, WFS will screen Tina, a much-loved New Zealand film about a woman's story of healing after a great loss.

Our 8:15pm screening is Tarrac, an uplifting Irish drama about family, community and open ocean rowing.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the run time of the 6pm film, our second screening will be 15 minutes later than usual at 8:15pm.

Mareta is lost in a deep despair after her teenage daughter, Lanita is killed in the Christchurch earthquakes. To get herself back into the world again and get some focus, she takes a job as a substitute teacher at an elite private school.

But on her first day, Mareta is surprised to find so many of the students crying out for guidance, inspiration and love.

Wanting to empower her young students, Mareta utilises her Samoan culture to start a choir and, as she brings them together as a group, Mareta rediscovers her passion for both teaching and life.

The Whangarei community really helped to shape our District’s 'Future Development Strategy'. We saw thousands of comments on social media, more than 100 formal submissions, and many face-to-face or online meetings and stakeholder workshops.

After taking on your feedback, Whangarei District Council and Northland Regional Council have now jointly adopted the Future Development Strategy. Thank you to everyone who took part in this process!
The strategy tackles big issues of population growth, infrastructure choices, and how and where Whangarei will grow over the next 30 years. We are aiming for are a Whangarei that supports thriving communities, protects our environment and builds resilience for the future.

These top-line directives were broadly supported by the community:
🏗️ Build in existing town centres
🏘️ Open up a full range of housing types
🚌 Create a transport systems for growth
💧 Make full use of infrastructure
