Disabled Children

Glen from Central Whangarei

So after two years on the Whangarei disability advisory group, I have moved onto bigger and better things.

I have teamed up with two dedicated women we have formed a business called " Children With Disability NZ" we have applied for charity status.

We are a Northland New Zealand-based group striving to bring enjoyment to disabled children's lives, our current focus is on the lack of facilities in Northland catering for disabled children.

Our mission!

To make Northland the most disability-friendly region in New Zealand

To provide more events for our disabled children their parents and siblings to enjoy togetherness.

More USABLE and WHEELCHAIR friendly outdoor experiences

Better wheelchair accessibility.

More sensory programs and equipment in public spaces.

Our mission is to make every disabled child welcome in Northland.

We have many great ideas and a lot of support already in place. We have a first goal of getting the unused WDC wheelchair swing out of council storage and into use within Northland.

We would like to be guided by feedback from the communities of Northland.

We have a working relationship with Whangarei District Council and other Northland councils, WDC and other councils are becoming more aware of accessibility issues facing disabled children and taking measures to improve accessibility in our city.

We are also lobbying at the Government level. All contact details on our website. We are

Poll: Would you want an unconventional funeral?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Funerals can cost as much as $22,000 and the planning can be stressful especially at a time when loved ones are grieving. Some New Zealanders are re-imagining funerals by making their own coffin or having a relaxed ceremony at home. Would you want a less traditional funeral? Share your thoughts below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
