The Volcanic Alert Level on Whakaari White Island has been increased to 3.
What you need to know:
- The alert level at Whakaari White Island has been increased after a small eruption.
- Minor volcanic eruption was seen by a vigorous steam plume above the island on Friday morning at 8.20am.
- There are no sensors on the island, so Geonet relies on webcams and satellite imagery to assess the situation.
