North Cantabrians in hot debate over cause of mystery noise

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

A mysterious night-time droning noise is driving some North Canterbury residents insane, but no-one has been able to confirm its origin.

Suggestions flooding social media include 5G towers, seismic activity, angry bees, big brother, electric fences, and the global hum — a phenomenon reportedly experienced worldwide.

The sound has been reported in Belfast, Kaiapoi, Woodend, Rangiora, Mandeville and further afield to Ashley and Loburn, with some saying it keeps them awake at night.

Have you heard the noise?

Say goodbye to tyre waste

Tyrewise

About 40% of the 6.5 million tyres Kiwis use every year are recycled, repurposed, or used as tyre-derived fuel. But the rest end up in landfills, stockpiled or dumped.

The good news is now there’s an easy solution to all that tyre waste. It’s called Tyrewise and is New Zealand’s first national tyre recycling scheme.

Tyrewise ensures that tyres in Aotearoa New Zealand are recycled or repurposed properly, saving millions from going to the landfill.

Find out more about the scheme online.
