Concerns for council diversity after Hurunui votes against childcare allowance
A North Canterbury councillor at the forefront of a campaign for childcare subsidies for elected officials says she is disappointed her fellow councillors chose to vote against the policy.
According to the minutes from the meeting, councillors agreed the district was a "mostly rural district with many hard working residents who continuously contribute to their communities through volunteering or performing acts of public service without remuneration or parental help".
Cellphone bills, internet use and mileage allowances are already covered by the Remuneration Authority.
