Smoking and vaping while waiting in supermarket queues - please don't!
I'm actually not sure if it poses a problem, but I'm just wondering, when waiting in a supermarket queue and people around us are smoking or vaping, could we be at risk?
It happened to me today while waiting in the queue, that I accidentally inhaled a whiff of vapour from the customer in front of me a few times, and also a bit of smoke once, from another shopper further up the line.
If we can smell their smoke or flavoured vapour, then it came out of their lungs and made it into our noses, right? Can the virus be transmitted this way?
I googled around a bit, and it looks like the current consensus is that it's not a risk, however, I've just sent this question to the Newsroom Covid-19 Q+A (briefing@newsroom.co.nz), and hopefully it's selected and answered in Thursday's session... but if not, and until we know for sure, please be so kind and don't smoke or vape while waiting in supermarket queues.
Of course, one thing is for sure - smoking or vaping increases our own risk to get seriously ill if we catch Covid-19.
Thanks, and stay healthy and safe.
