Waimakariri set to get its own version of the Student Volunteer Army
Two Kaiapoi High School students are setting up their own version of the Student Volunteer Army after being inspired by their peers in Christchurch.
"Other schools in Christchurch have been doing it so I thought it would be a good opportunity for Kaiapoi High School to do something similar," year 12 student Artemis Hingston says.
The student army will spend time with the elderly people to help combat loneliness, help at primary school events, volunteer at community events, and help with clean-ups, including washing ambulances.
Artemis says although the Waimakariri group will start at Kaipaoi High School, it is intended to become a district-wide service.

very kind Lady behind me in the queue reached out and paid for my purchase.
The world still has some wonderful people in it even in these troubled times.
