"This means we must stay at home in our bubbles, mask up and maintain physical distancing when we go out to access essential services or light exercise. All our pools, libraries and Council service centres are closed. Our playgrounds are also closed but they are not taped off due to the short notice we had to move to Alert Level 4 and the need to keep our people safe – the Delta variant is a very different beast and we are not prepared to put our people, who are your friends and neighbours, at risk. The Prime Minister has made it very clear that the use of playgrounds is strictly prohibited so please do the right thing and follow the Alert Level 4 rules. We appreciate that this is a very unsettling time for everyone and we’ll do our best to keep you informed. Our call centre is still operating so if you need urgent assistance you can contact us on 0800 486 486 (if it’s an emergency situation please call 111).

Yet another inequitable service… View moreKCDC has advised that they will not be allowing people to use the transfer station during lockdown. I would have thought rubbish removal was an essential service. It certainly has a public health component. Apparently its only unsanitary if you are paying for it. Yet another inequitable service from council.
They have advised "Only commercial collectors may enter the transfer stations. People who don’t pay for kerbside collection should stockpile their rubbish bags and clean recycling".
The message is loud and clear. Unless you are paying for kerbside collection, you are on your own. So much for building community resilience in the face of pandemics and natural disasters. What a load of rubbish their long term plan is. They are incapable of operationalising any of it.
If you have to stockpile rubbish, be aware that it could attract rats and mice, particularly at this time of year when other sources of food are limited. These rodents carry a number of unpleasant diseases such as Salmonella and any droppings should be disposed of carefully, with disinfectant, rubber gloves and a face mask.

The priority list for the foodbank this week is:
Tinned tomatoes
Dry soup
Peanut butter
A big thank you goes out to the team at Pak n Save who helped us out by helping us sort supplies this week, during a very busy time.

Would love some to extend my corner. Happy to pay for them and collect (after lockdown). Bare rooted is fine. I looked for plants in the various nurseries and balked at the price of $25. They are generally not heirloom plants and are said to only last about 8 years on average. Love to be proven wrong on this point though.

The four new cases announced Wednesday morning were all linked to the 58-year-old Devonport man – a tradesman – who tested positive on Tuesday. The four include a colleague of the man and close contacts, including a nurse who works at Auckland hospital.
The entire country is at the highest alert level for at least three days while Auckland and Coromandel, where the man spent the weekend, are at level 4 for at least seven days. A list of locations of interest can be found here.
Level 4 means it’s likely that the disease is not contained.
Testing and vaccinations
A full list of community testing centres can be found here. If you think you need a test, call Healthline first on 0800 358 5453. If you get tested, stay home until you have a negative test result. There is no charge to get a test, regardless of your citizenship, immigration status, nationality or medical insurance.
You will need to supply contact details to get a test. A National Health Index (NHI) number is good to have but not crucial.
The most common test is a swab to the back of your nose, which some people describe as a “tickle” and others say is “uncomfortable.”
The vaccination programme has been put on hold for 48 hours. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said it was to ensure the safety of frontline health workers, as officials tried to get to grips with how wide the latest community case may have spread.
Stay at home
People are instructed to stay home in their bubble other than for essential movement. Safe recreational activity is allowed in the local area but, given the Delta variant is suspected, even more caution is recommended from others to limit transmission.
