To Be Fair At The End Of The Day

Michael from Pinehaven

Cliques I am sick of:

1/ To be fair.
2/ At the end of the day.
3/ Yeah, Nah (yes, no)
Have you too had enough of these remarks that politicians down the chain say so often.

Quite often there is no need to be fair or fairness is not the object. Its simply filling a one dimensional gap.

Quite often there is no need to be fair or fairness is not the object. Its simply filling a one dimensional gap.

Surely there are alternative words or an alternative word to mean "at the end of the day".

A written social clique like on Neighbourly or in Facebook that I find is often most likely untrue is:
1/ LOL (laugh out loud)
2/ Just saying.

LOL is often used at the end of a comment to lighten the effects of the comment or make out that the comment is not serious and is a way to hide behind the real intent of the comment.

"Just saying" is mostly not just saying but fully meaning in concrete terms what the just saying person has written.

There are other social cliques and excusing words I am sure.

Does anyone else get unwanted Ad Mail in their letterbox?

Hi guys,

I've recently been on a bit of tirade because for months now I have been receiving weekly junk mail in my letterbox, despite having two signs requesting No Junk Mail and No Ad Mail Please. This week I finally decided to do something about it.

It occurred to me that if it was happening to me then maybe others in the area were getting unwanted ad-mail too? Receiving unwanted mail is always slightly frustrating, but particularly so when you're trying to decrease the demand for paper mail and 'do your bit' for the planet. (One resident in Christchurch collected junk mail for a year and found it stacked up to around 7kg and was nearly two meters high!)

If you're experiencing this problem and want to do something about it then you can contact the Mailbox Helpline on 0800 111 081. It helps them to know what kind of junk mail is being delivered, so they can trace it back to the relevant contractor.

If you don't have a No Junk Mail / Circular / Ad-Mail sign but would like one, you can get a free sticker for your mailbox by making a request through letterboxer.org.nz or, if you simply prefer to get your ad-mail electronically you can use, ecomailbox.co.nz

Greater Wellington Regional Council is looking for an operator for the new system, which could arrive in Wellington as soon as 2020. Each time you jump on public transport around the nation, you would swipe your credit or debit card and be charged the most cost-effective fare. What do you think? Would this be better than our current system? Why? Comments may be used in print unless stated otherwise with NFP (Not For Print)
