Call to support petition to redesigned dangerous Upper Hutt intersection

Reporter Community News

The death of a popular former Hutt College teacher Rachel Pawsey has resulted in a petition to upgrade the intersection where she was killed.

Louise Brodie started the online petition after former Pawsey collided with a car at the intersection of Moonshine Hill Rd and State Highway 2 on August 27. Brodie said she had witnessed many near misses at the same junction that accesses the Upper Hutt suburb of Riverstone Terraces.

She said the intersection was dangerous because vehicles often had to enter, from a near standing start, traffic moving at 100kmh. The interchange is not controlled by lights.
