I have only recently found this fascinating 2017 post that has vital information for Hauraki Plains and all connected rate payers. Yes, even communities on the eastern side of the ranges will almost certainly pay increased taxes to help save the plains and keep highway 25 open. That this information has not been much more publicised in local media is disgraceful. Vandalism is costing ratepayers - what can be done to better protect our public spaces?
Vandals have repeatedly damaged public amenities across the Waikato District, leaving ratepayers to pick up the bill. So far in 2025, the cost has climbed to nearly $123,000, reports the Waikato Times.
The council is urging residents to report vandalism as soon as possible.
