Wild weather lashing the Waikato has cut power to hundreds of homes and made driving conditions treacherous. Most of the country is in for a showery and windy Monday, with a colder spell on the way that may bring snow to the Desert Rd on Tuesday.

- Rain is expected to continue in Hamilton through until Wednesday this week.
- WEL Network put out a statement at 7am on Monday saying several areas were experiencing power outages.
- Power is out to 684 properties north of Huntly in the Kimiha area. In Hillcrest around 55 homes are without power due to an unplanned outage. WEL said high winds and heavy rain posed a threat to field staff who have been advised to make sites safe and return at a later time to complete repairs.

MetService has issued a strong wind watch for the Waikato until 5pm Monday.

- Check on power outages at wel.co.nz

Hey neighbours, are you thinking of borrowing money by taking out a loan?

Before you do - there's a few things you really need to know about. Take a minute and read the tips below to ensure you're asking the right questions and getting the best loan for you.

1. Shop around! Interest rates, fees and terms must be made available to you by the lender. Make sure you compare details and make an informed decision about what loan is best for you.

2. Choose a lender. Did you know that when you borrow money to buy something, you don’t have to borrow from the same person who is selling the goods?

3. Understand. Whoever is loaning you the money must ask questions to make sure you can afford the loan. They also need to help you understand the key terms of the loan.

4. Be prepared. You'll need to provide your lender with information to show that you can afford to repay the loan. This might include proof of income and expenses so make sure you have it ready.

Don't get on Auntie's bad side and do your research! You can find more information here.

- 7am Thursday 5 July to 7am Friday 6 July

To reduce the number of patients in hospital and attending our clinics over the time leading up to and during the proposed industrial action we will be:

- Rescheduling appointments for surgery, treatments and outpatient clinics.
- Giving priority to emergency, critical care and maternity.
- Still providing some essential outpatient clinics such as cancer and dialysis treatments.
- Contacting all patients whose operations or clinic appointments are affected by the strike.

Please save the hospital emergency department for emergencies only.
