Free Tree

Tauranga City Council

🌲 We’re celebrating Arbor Day this week by launching Free Tree Day 🌳

We have lots of native trees like Pōhutukawa, large-leaved Kōwhai, Tōtara, and Kōhūhū to giveaway as we look to increase the city’s tree canopy coverage.

Free native tree? Yeah, I’m in:

👉Be at Mercury Baypark on Sunday, 9 June between 9am – 1pm
👉 One tree per household on a first come, first served basis
👉No trailers necessary as a tree will fit in a car
👉 Fuel up at the coffee cart while you’re there
👉Contribute to increasing Tauranga tree canopy coverage from 22% to 30% or more.

We have 1900 trees to giveaway so share with your friends and whānau and let’s improve our urban greenery and biodiversity together.

Poll: Should we be giving the green light to new mining projects? 💰🌲

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.

We want to know: Should mining projects like this move ahead?

Keen to dig deeper? Mike White has the scoop.
