- Between 9:00am Thu 12 Dec to 6:00pm Thu 12 Dec, heavy rain is expected with localised downpours possible.
- Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria in localised areas.
- Rainfall likely to ease from the west late afternoon.
- There is a low chance of upgrading this to a Warning.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
