The job that stuck in a police fingerprinter's memory
Murray Stretch’s murder is the one that sticks in the mind of fingerprinter Prem Singh.
The Mangakino police officer was beaten to death by Carlos Namana, on May 27, 1999 - the then 19-year-old committed the heinous crime while resisting arrest for theft of lollies and chips from a local shop.
Singh, a fingerprinter of 44 years based at Hamilton Central Police Station, said he can still see that day in his mind’s eye.
