Rural dog owners to get $20 discount

Robert Steven Reporter from Taupō Times

Taupō District Council is providing pet dog owners in rural areas with a $20 discount (or refund, if already paid) on their dog registration costs.

The decision was made on Tuesday in response to a large number of complaints about the increase from $25 to $85 (the registration cost paid by urban owners.

Rural dog owners -- what do you think about the $20 refund?

Pretty sweet deal? Happy to be heard? Or do you feel the cost, even at $65, is still unfair, given dog control costs are largely incurred by dogs in urban areas?

Please let us know :)

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
