Police seek information after tourists robbed near Turangi

Police would like to hear from anyone with information about a reported aggravated robbery just south of Turangi on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred about 4.30pm on Saturday 18 August on Atirau Road, near the Turangi Golf Course. The two male tourists had their vehicle stopped and were threatened by three male offenders. Their vehicle was searched and they were forced to hand over cash, a cell phone and luggage.

The offenders are described as Maori, two of whom had facial tattoos, and were said to be driving an older style red vehicle. Police are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has knowledge about what happened and those involved.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Sergeant Andy Livingstone, Taupo Police, on (07) 377 9331. Information can be given in confidence if required.
