Waste industry experts are in a spin over the latest public attempts to simplify recycling in New Zealand.

Viewers of TV3’s The Project were told on Friday that pizza boxes could be recycled, according to researchers.

But many Canterbury councils ask that pizza boxes go into the organics collection, not the recycling bin. Read more here.

Water quality data reveals a 'very mixed bag' for Canterbury rivers

Land Air Water Aotearoa found urban waterways generally had the worst water quality, followed by those flowing through pastureland, while those in native forest had the best.

One expert said it was hard to find a Canterbury river where at least one indicator was not degrading, but improving quality was a long-term game and people need to keep their eye on the ball.
