Chicken rescue mission successful despite trip to hospital
A North Canterbury Chicken Rescue operation has saved 13 chickens from a harrowing life in the wild.
Amanda Gill and Liv Magee said the weekend’s mission in Dunedin was a success – they saved multiple chickens, helped find homes for 10 turkeys, and rescued two guinea fowl.
One rooster was rescued from under a pub, while two more were surrendered by their owner.
The only downside, other than copping abuse from one local angry at their efforts, was Gill stumbling on a clump of grass and ending up in Oamaru Hospital with torn ligaments in her knee.
“It looks like I will be on crutches for six weeks," she said.
