Kaiapoi a step closer to destination status

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

A riverside town in North Canterbury is aiming to become a popular destination, with canal boats, events and riverside shopping all part of future plans for its town centre.

The Waimakariri District Council adopted the Kaiapoi Town Centre Plan this week following a month-long public consultation process.

The plan aims to make Kaiapoi "New Zealand's Best Rivertown'' and says it has the potential to become a vibrant destination. It seeks to build on recent improvements to the town centre, such as the Ruataniwha Kaiapoi Civic Centre, the redesign of Williams St and the almost completed marine precinct.
