An increase in direct trans-Tasman flights led to a big jump in the number of Australian visitors arriving at Queenstown Airport in August.
The number of overseas visitors arriving in the Otago resort town increased by 7100 (or 22 per cent) in August 2019, compared with the same month last year, to reach 39,200, Stats NZ said.
It was the largest monthly gain on record for overseas visitor arrivals in Queenstown.
After changes to firearm laws, the government introduced a six month amnesty period. This means that anyone with firearms and parts that are no longer legal have until 20 December 2019 to hand them in to Police.
