A "strict and dominating" Catholic father cut five of his children from his will after he felt they deserted the religion.

But five years after his death, a High Court heard Jack Enright's will was "morally and legally questionable" and awarded four of the five out-of-pocket siblings nearly $1 million each.

Enright built up a trust - valued at $11.5 million in 2009 - through building homes in Queenstown, a property development business and ownership of a 10,000 hectare farm, Dunstan Burn Station, in Central Otago.
