It links with the SH20 cycleway, which enjoyed a 16% increase in cyclists last year, and the Mt Roskill Safe routes cycleway.
If we can provide safe cycleways for students to cycle to school, we can potentially cut morning peak traffic on the roads by up to 10%. It's a concern that while most baby boomers walked or cycled to school, only 3% of secondary students cycle to school today.
Cycling lowers congestion, reduces carbon emissions and provides healthy exercise for students when rising obesity rates among our kids is a growing worry.
