Evacuations in Redwood Valley, near Nelson, as a fire spreads rapidly

Fiona from Henderson

OMG!!! Not again. Those poor people down in Nelson ☹️
Kind thoughts and lots of prayers are being sent to the firefighters and the locals 🙏
I do know that the dry summer down there isn't helping, but I even more sure that some little firebug toe rag will be contributing to this as well. The same thing was repeatedly occurring over various places in Europe of the last couple of years. 2017-2018 was particularly bad. It transpired that it was a mix of tourists and couple of locals that started them.
What we really should be using in such big fires like this is the fire fighting planes, either a Canadair CL-415 or even a Bombardier 415 which can scoop water straight from the ocean or even large lakes.
They are far more efficient that helicopters with buckets. Helicopters are perfect from damping down the hot spots while the plane tackles the larger areas.
Some of the fire planes even can drop chemicals which will put out the fire/s very quickly.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
