Crashes in Auckland are causing traffic delays for motorists ahead of Labour Weekend.
Auckland Transport advised motorists to allow extra time for their journeys this morning. A crash at 7.40am along the northwestern motorway was blocking the middle lane eastbound after Newton Rd, the New Zealand Transport Agency said. Footage from traffic cameras showed the speed on the motorway had been reduced to 50kmh.
Tamaki Makaurau Road Policing Manager Inspector Scott Webb says traffic congestion is going to reach peak levels on Friday and Saturday as motorists leave Auckland for the long weekend.
Inspector Webb says three people were killed and eight people were seriously injured on our roads across Tamaki Makaurau during Labour Day Weekend in 2017.

These one-way valves can weaken, causing blood to pool, which leads to bulbous, protruding veins. The discomfort of varicose veins is often described as fatigue, heaviness, itching or even cramps.
Historically, treatment of varicose centred on surgical removal of varicose veins under general anaesthetic. However, endovenous catheter ablation has become so successful that surgery is seldom needed. Endovenous means "working inside the vein" and ablation means "to close off". Under local anaesthetic, a laser fibre is threaded into the varicose vein and used to close off the problem veins, prompting the blood to redirect itself. Compression stockings are worn for two weeks post-treatment and regular walking is recommended.
There is no need for time off work. If you have varicose veins that are affecting you call Vein & Laser for a consultation with our doctor, vein physician Elisabeth De Felice.

Here are some tips to make sure you and your loved ones are well prepared and stay safe:
1. Check the marine weather forecast before you go out, it could save your life! 58% of boaties already check it. We want the other 42% to make it a habit. MetService New Zealand's Marine App makes it easy.
2. Tests your life jackets. Pull hard on the straps and see if any of them stretch or rip. Check all over for any existing tears in the straps and any cuts or punctures in the life jacket. If yes, do not use the life jacket, dispose of it, and replace it. Always check if it floats before putting them on. Keep in mind kapok life jackets should not be used as they can absorb water and sink, their cotton straps also easily rip! Burn them or bin them, but whatever you do - don't use or resell them.
3. For this year's Safer Boating Week, boaties are being reminded to “Prep, Check, Know” - prepare your boat, check your gear and know the rules before going on the water.
Let's put in the time and effort to make sure there are NO water related accidents or deaths this Labour Day long-weekend! Don't forget to look out for each other and report any concerns you have to local authorities.

The counterfeit money which consists mainly of $100 denominations, has been used to purchase goods such as petrol, food and cigarettes from various retailers throughout Auckland.
“The majority of the offending has occurred in the Henderson, Titirangi, Te Atatu and Avondale areas, however we believe there may be more in counterfeit notes currently in circulation and we’re urging retailers to contact us if they believe they are in possession of these notes,” said Constable Brown.
“The notes are very poor quality and relatively easy to spot as counterfeit money, they do not have a clear panel and the paper they are printed on does not feel legitimate. On close inspection you can see they have roughly cut edges and black lines – it’s not too difficult for anyone to see they are not genuine."
If you have any information that could help our investigation, please contact Constable Rebecca Brown from Henderson Police on (09) 839 0694.
Alternatively, information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

Once at the hut, not only do they unload their packs full of food, wine, and a souvenir rock; their hang-ups get unloaded as well.
Torrential rain and a flooded bridge keep them stranded for three days. What they get up to, to help pass the time, raises a few eyebrows and will have you laughing, tearing up and applauding enthusiastically as they bare all.
Of course, it’s not just souls that are exposed, there’s a little nudity, a cracking thunderstorm, explosions, screaming bloody murder, ghostly stories, a birthday celebration, a séance, a drunken party, confessions, meltdowns and revelations that will keep you and your friends entertained throughout.
Perfectly timed for your own social group’s ascent into summer, don’t miss this hilarious play when it comes to a town near you in November.
