The Yellow Ribbon Alliance, a group of firms raising awareness of road trauma, is promoting use of the colour to highlight road safety.
Road Safety Week participants can show their support by wearing yellow or donning a yellow ribbon pin.
Members of the public are invited to go yellow to show their support.
Organisations will be reminding drivers to stick below the speed limit, especially around schools and communities, and to adhere to the 20 km/h limit for passing a school bus.
School students are busy making posters reminding drivers to slow down, and will be dressed in yellow.
In its 10th year, the annual week will focus on speed with the Streets for Life theme.
More than 80,000 speed notices were issued around schools last year.
One in four people killed on New Zealand roads were in a crash where someone drove too fast for the conditions.
Speeding was a contributing factor in 79 fatal crashes and 424 serious injury crashes last year.
In 2020, more than 4000 speed notices and more than 80,000 speed camera notices were issued for offences near schools during school hours.
Learn what to do when recycling broken glass. Large chunks are ok, as long as they are from grocery packaging. Always remember when recycling if in doubt, leave it out.

Did you pick up that one student commented that there was no meat in the free lunch, and therefore it wasn't worth eating?
Not one of those kids was remotely skinny, mostly overfed and definitely ungrateful.

Matua Ngarino had a knife pulled on him in Avondaleโs Riversdale Park after confronting a group of boys who he believed had attacked a 12-year-old a few days prior.

Matua Ngarino had a knife pulled on him in Avondaleโs Riversdale Park after confronting a group of boys who he believed had attacked a 12-year-old a few days prior.
The attack had sent the boy, who had been at the park with Ngarinoโs sons, to Starship Hospital and made his own sons afraid of going outside, Ngarino said.
โThe boys surrounded me, and one pulled a knife. I gave him the opportunity to walk away before they all got hurt.
โWith my background in wing chung kung fu I was ready for the unexpected. I warned them a second time to walk away from the situation, they hesitated at first, but they came to their senses and walked away.โ
Back in 1989, Ngarino said he had trained in wing chung kung fu in Christchurch, and while he had taught his children to walk away from confrontation, said he knew how to defend himself.
Wing chung kung fu is a form of self-defence requiring quick arm movements and strong kicks to defeat opponents.
While at the park Ngarino took photographs of the boys he believed were involved and sent them to police.

Rossโ retirement saw the beginning of his musical journey where his passion quickly evolved from making music, to crafting guitars. It all started when Ross and some mates joined a music group where the camaraderie and togetherness were just as important as the music.
Living in a Ryman village, Ross can continue living life to the full in his retirement because they are places where you donโt retire from life, you find a new way to live .

Waka Kotahi (NZTA) has reported that all lanes on the Upper Harbour highway are open. Expect delays as traffic eases.

Auckland motorists are told to expect delays to their afternoon commute after electrical cabling fell on the motorway.
The southbound Upper Harbour highway off-ramp is currently closed as contractors work to clear the blockage. Police have reported that this is currently impacting city-bound traffic and diversions are currently in place.

But in stark contrast, several plots of land worth hundreds of millions of dollars have sat as car parks since buildings were knocked down in the 1980s.
The Elliott St car park sits on a 4417 square metre plot of land, valued at $82.5 million.
The land has sat undeveloped as a car park - where an hour will cost you $19 - since the Royal International Hotel was demolished in 1987.
It was purchased by Singapore company NDG Asia Pacific (NZ) Limited for $53m in 2012, and in 2017 the company was given approval by the Overseas Investment Office to build and operate a 52-storey, five- star Ritz-Carlton Hotel, with 300 guest rooms, four floors for hotel facilities, six for retail and five for car parking.
The development is expected to cost $350m, with the start of construction dependent on the completion of City Rail Link. However, the resource consent for the tower is due to expire in October.
