You say Kai-kura, I say Kaikōura
Kai Kora, Kai Kura, even Kia Kora (as I heard one person say on the six o’clock news the other night). Following the devastating earthquakes we’ve heard all manner of versions of the place Māori named Kaikōura.
People may think it’s not a big issue, that it’s only a name or a word.
Some even scream PC gone mad when encouraged to use the correct pronunciation. And to them it probably is, but to me it’s more than that.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
