Heavy snow may disrupt travel in affected areas and could damage trees and powerlines. Cold conditions may cause stress for livestock.

Forecast: Snow is expected to lower to about 300 metres this (Friday) morning. During today, 15 to 30cm of snow may accumulate above about 500 metres with lesser amounts down to 300 metres. The snow is likely to be heaviest around midday and early this afternoon, then the snow should gradually ease.
Forecast: Severe gale southerlies gusting 120 km/h in exposed places.

All standard procedure though, nothing to be alarmed about, said council operations and maintenance engineer Stephen Rooney. The council statement said water supplies in Blenheim, Picton, Renwick, Havelock and the Wairau Valley were plumbosolvent, and therefore more likely to contain traces of metal.
The ministry said though the health risk was small, it recommended residents ran a mug-full of water from the drinking tap each morning before use, to remove metals that might have accumulated overnight.

Doctors believed it was most likely he had contracted the disease from inhalation of the Legionella bacteria in the compost and gardening mix he was transporting for his job.
