Rather than being overwhelmed by this information, use it as a reminder to review your emergency plans. Think about how you and your family can prepare to look after yourselves (and your pets) for up to 7 days.
It’s also useful to check that information is from a reliable source before you share it; for example, from Geonet or the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

But one debate is still ramping up - should the New Zealand Wars become a compulsory part of the curriculum? What do you think? Take part in our poll below!

Are you going out of your way to collect plastic bags before they become illegal in NZ? Some Kiwis have admitted they are stockpiling bags before they can no longer get them from supermarkets and petrol stations.
It's been noticed that some customers have been taking plastic bags for things like single chocolate bars and drinks "to save up".
Do you find plastic bags handy for bin liners? What eco-friendly tips and alternatives to plastic can you share with your neighbours? Leave a reply to share your thoughts.

Waihopai Valley community was still waiting to hear back from Marlborough Roads who have responsibility for road maintenance. Marlborough District Council assets and services manager Richard Coningham said sections of the road had deteriorated thanks to "very wet winter" and a "big increase" in logging trucks. "Up until now only temporary repairs have been able to be undertaken because of the wet weather, however work has begun on extensive repairs to the road. Additional drainage work is also being carried out to try and dry the existing wet pavement," he said.
"People driving the Waihopai Valley Road need to be aware that there is a number of temporary speed limits in place, there may be delays with the maintenance works, and there will be a lot of people working on the road."
