Sightings of stoats darting through backyards and swimming across Coromandel rivers have triggered a “mega pest attack” on the peninsula.
Conservationists say a swarm of juvenile stoats would be a worst-case scenario and they’re encouraging locals to get into backyard trapping.
About $3000 worth of funding from Predator Free NZ will be poured into traps, and residents will be able to have free ones set up in their backyards.
