Poll: 1080 poison - what do you think?
1080 poison was in the news this week with a two-day trial at Thames District Court for 1080 protester Graeme Sturgeon, who was charged with assaulting a security guard as DOC staff were loading 1080 poison on to trucks for transport to a drop zone in the Coromandel Ranges on October 17. Judge Greg Hollister-Jones threw out the charge on February 20, saying Sturgeon acted in self defence. What's your stance on 1080 - harmful to the environment or a necessary evil to control possums?

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
