Preliminary results show Sandra Goudie with a narrow lead for Thames-Coromandel and John Tregida well ahead for Hauraki.
THAMES-COROMANDEL
In preliminary results, Goudie came out ahead with 5,584 votes, compared to 5103 for mayoral candidate Peter French, who was her sole competition.
Goudie said the mayoral campaign was "a good run".
"It was a great campaign, I loved it - great fun," she said.
Goudie said it was going to be "interesting" to see how it unfolded at council, after many newly elected ward and community board members backed French during the election campaign.
"There are a number of people who went on a ticket with Peter. Hopefully, they will pull together for the good of the district," she said.
"It's up to them, their professionalism and the way they put their efforts and energies into the district."
Goudie, who lives in Kopu, near Thames, with husband Bernard, was until recently a Thames councillor and had been the Coromandel MP for the National Party for nine years.
Winning the mayoral campaign for Thames-Coromandel was a big relief, and she intended to celebrate with friends and family at home, she said.
"The big relief is that the waiting's over," she said.
"Let's get down to work now, I'm actually looking forward to getting on with the work."
HAURAKI
Incumbent John Tregidga has been re-elected to lead Hauraki District Council as mayor for another three years – polling more than 1350 votes ahead of his only rival Conall Buchanan.
Preliminary results on Saturday afternoon, with 98 per cent of the votes tallied, recorded Tregidga collecting 3448 votes, and Buchanan with 2051.
Tregidga said he was "very, very happy", delighted with the result, and the convincing margin – as he rated Buchanan as a worthy opponent "with a good track record . . . who campaigned very well."
He credited his success to a "very stable council" and said his re-election was "an endorsement to the council, as much as it is for me."
This will be Tregidga's fifth term as mayor of Hauraki District, having already served 12 years in the council's top job.
On Saturday afternoon he celebrated at home with his wife, family and friends, enjoying a glass of bubbles and a roast beef on the barbecue for dinner.
