Public safety behind barrier at popular Caroline Bay swimming spot
A barrier on a well-used jetty in Caroline Bay has irritated some but the decision is based on public safety. The jetty, officially owned by the Timaru Yacht and Power Boat Club, has long been a prime spot for swimmers, fishermen, and community organisations.
After several heavy storms in the past 18 months, and increasing level of maintenance required to keep it up to a safe standard, the club decided to block access in mid-September while they look for a solution that works for all.
