November’s Weather: a Summery Month
Along with most places in Central New Zealand and other places, Kāpiti enjoyed summery weather during November, with temperatures more like those usually expected in December. It was also dry with above average sunshine.
Our daily average maximum temperature was 20.7℃. Only four times in the last 15 years has the November average exceeded 20 degrees, the last being in 2022. This temperature was around 1.5 degrees above the longtime average.
Rainfall of around 80mm was a little above average, but it mostly fell as two events, separated by up to two dry weeks.
Sunshine amounting to the equivalent of 18 days was above that usually experienced in December.
It seems the forecasted La Niña summer may have already arrived in November, so I guess we can expect December to be similar to what we had in November, with perhaps less wind and an average temperature of around 22 ℃.

Poll: Should we be giving the green light to new mining projects? 💰🌲
The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
