At a loose end during Wellington Anniversary weekend?

Marlene from Raumati Beach

Petanque has been in the local news, both online and in our local paper over the last 12 months, giving results of various tournaments. The sport is extremely popular, but not enough has been publicised about the sport itself. Now is your chance to see it in action. Kapiti Petanque club is hosting their biggest tournament of the year on 18 and 19 January. Players come from all over New-Zealand, and it is a chance to see the top New Zealand players in action. The Kapiti Open doubles is open to all to enter, without the need to be affiliated to any Club. Although the Kapiti Open may be a step too far if you haven’t played Petanque before, you are welcome to come to any of our four club days we have each week. If you have ever thought about having a go, now is your chance.
All equipment will be provided. The only stipulation is making sure you wear covered footwear. The contact, club day times and days and entry details are at the end of this post. If you would prefer just to watch, you are very welcome to come along. Sunday afternoon is when the finals are fought out, if you want added excitement.

We want to know: Should mining projects like this move ahead?

Keen to dig deeper? Mike White has the scoop.
