Coleus Plants - Toxic to Cats
Hi All
I see these pretty Coleus plants are available in plant stores now. Please consider carefully before you put them in your garden or gift them to someone else.
When a cat rubs against the foliage the fine hairs on the leaves get on their fur. The cat licks the fur and the fibres get into their digestive tract. Symptom's are convulsive vomiting, staggering walk and generally looking very unwell. You need to take your cat to the vet promptly. I know this from recent experience and we were lucky to work out what the issue was so our cat is now ok. Of course the Coleus are in the rubbish.
The information on the website also mentions dogs being affected.
Thank you.
