Peepo - "A couple weeks ago we adopted Benjamin Button, now called Peepo. He has been a delight and a half, to say the least, and has grown so big in such a small amount of time! Slowly, he has adjusted to his new home and is now a superb older brother to his little sister, Namnam. The staff at the SPCA were super helpful throughout the entire adoption process, even giving us tips on how to introduce our new kittens. Suffice to say they are now best buddies."
Lock-down can be a little boring so to keep amused I am asking you to post an interesting or favourite picture.
Mine is the Baring Head lighthouse near Wellington.
It is a rugged and beautiful spot, and the light was just right for this picture.

"This means we must stay at home in our bubbles, mask up and maintain physical distancing when we go out to access essential services or light exercise. All our pools, libraries and Council service centres are closed. Our playgrounds are also closed but they are not taped off due to the short notice we had to move to Alert Level 4 and the need to keep our people safe – the Delta variant is a very different beast and we are not prepared to put our people, who are your friends and neighbours, at risk. The Prime Minister has made it very clear that the use of playgrounds is strictly prohibited so please do the right thing and follow the Alert Level 4 rules. We appreciate that this is a very unsettling time for everyone and we’ll do our best to keep you informed. Our call centre is still operating so if you need urgent assistance you can contact us on 0800 486 486 (if it’s an emergency situation please call 111).

KCDC has advised that they will not be allowing people to use the transfer station during lockdown. I would have thought rubbish removal was an essential service. Yet another inequitable service… View moreKCDC has advised that they will not be allowing people to use the transfer station during lockdown. I would have thought rubbish removal was an essential service. It certainly has a public health component. Apparently its only unsanitary if you are paying for it. Yet another inequitable service from council.
They have advised "Only commercial collectors may enter the transfer stations. People who don’t pay for kerbside collection should stockpile their rubbish bags and clean recycling".
The message is loud and clear. Unless you are paying for kerbside collection, you are on your own. So much for building community resilience in the face of pandemics and natural disasters. What a load of rubbish their long term plan is. They are incapable of operationalising any of it.
If you have to stockpile rubbish, be aware that it could attract rats and mice, particularly at this time of year when other sources of food are limited. These rodents carry a number of unpleasant diseases such as Salmonella and any droppings should be disposed of carefully, with disinfectant, rubber gloves and a face mask.

The priority list for the foodbank this week is:
Tinned tomatoes
Dry soup
Peanut butter
A big thank you goes out to the team at Pak n Save who helped us out by helping us sort supplies this week, during a very busy time.
***All donations to be left at one of our foodbins at participating supermarkets - Pak n Save Kapiti, New World Waikanae, New World Kapiti and Countdown at Paraparaumu.***

Would love some to extend my corner. Happy to pay for them and collect (after lockdown). Bare rooted is fine. I looked for plants in the various nurseries and balked at the price of $25. They are generally not heirloom plants and are said to only last about 8 years on average. Love to be proven wrong on this point though.
